Marimekko | Oiva - Unikko Red Mug 250ml

Marimekko's iconic Unikko design is a bold and vibrant floral pattern created by Finnish designer Maija Isola in 1964. Unikko, which means "poppy" in Finnish, features large-scale, abstract representations of poppy flowers in various colors and combinations. 

The design was initially met with some skepticism by Marimekko's founder, Armi Ratia, who was initially hesitant about using floral patterns. However, the Unikko design became a symbol of Marimekko's rebirth and departure from traditional floral patterns. It represented a break from the conventional and introduced a fresh, modern aesthetic to Finnish design.
