The Enduring Allure of Alessi's Melodic Whistling Kettle

Alessi 9091 Melodic Whistling Kettle Richard Sapper

Alessi is renowned for its commitment to avant-garde design, introducing the Melodic Whistling Kettle to the world in 1983.

Designed by Richard Sapper, this kettle stands as a quintessential representation of postmodern design aesthetics.

Sapper wanted to design a kettle which was not only pleasant to the eye but also to the ear. His goal was that to try and replicate the sound to which a steam boat would make when docking. He replicated this by designing the whistle with two pitch pipes which created the melodic sound to which reminded him of his childhood sound.

The Alessi kettle has achieved cultural significance beyond its practical use. Its presence in numerous design museums worldwide underscores its status as an iconic artefact of contemporary design history. As consumer tastes evolve and design trends shift, the Alessi kettle remains a steadfast symbol of innovation and creativity.

Stelton's Cylinda Line Teapot: A Study in Scandinavian Simplicity

Stelton's Cylinda Line teapot, designed by the legendary Danish architect Arne Jacobsen, embodies these principles with understated elegance. Introduced in 1967, this teapot epitomises the minimalist aesthetic that defines Nordic design sensibilities.

The Cylinda Line teapot's sleek cylindrical silhouette and polished stainless steel construction exude a timeless sophistication that transcends fleeting trends. Jacobsen's meticulous attention to detail is evident in every aspect of the teapot's design, from its ergonomic handle to its precision-engineered spout.

Beyond its visual appeal, the Cylinda Line teapot reflects Jacobsen's vision of democratic design—creating objects that are accessible to all while maintaining uncompromising quality and craftsmanship. This ethos has ensured the teapot's enduring popularity and cemented its status as a modern design classic.

This teapot was really hard to find in Australia, so we are happy to be able to have it as part of our collection.
